Welcome

Welcome!

The Riverbend Players is a group of enthusiasts from the local area who enjoy live theatre, music, comedy, and all other aspects of performing and producing entertainment for the community that is intended for people of all ages. "RBP" originated as a splinter group of The Bucksport Community Theatre back in 2004 after deciding that smaller scale productions with more diverse entertainment specialties operating within a simpler to manage organization was "just right" for us. Though we are a small "family", some of us are very comfortable on the big stage too...and for surem some of us have performed in the big musicals that have become annual summer events at The Bucksport Performing Arts Center.

Our mission is to create and provide an opportunity for participatory involvement in community theatre, while providing a safe and positive atmosphere, and environment for same, with the goal of providing an enjoyable, quality theatrical experience for all.

What we love to do is sing, dance, laugh, cry, play music, and have fun! We don't exist for profit, we exist for speading joy!

Our business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month, at 6:30 PM at The Jewett Community Center in Bucksport, Maine. Our business meetings follow a standard agenda.

If you have a chance, stop by...we would love to meet you.

VAUDEVILLE REVUE

A ROUSING SUCCESS!!

The Riverbend Players of Bucksport had a very successful run of our summer show this year. Once more, we were the opening act for the Bucksport Bay Festival, on Thursday evening, July 24th. Our illustrious mayor of Bucksport welcomed everyone to the BBF and our show, “The Riverbend Players Present A Vaudeville Revue”. The lineup for the show was one of our best ever, with a magician team, one of which proved to be quite the escape artist (that is until his final performance on our closing night of Sunday July 27th). For the first time in Dr. Wilson’s career he was not able to escape the “rope escape trick”, and a Maine State Police detective, who literally towered over Dr. Wilson, managed to foil the good doctor, and therefore won a nice, crispy $100 bill. Let us not forget either, that our very own Amber (“yoo-hoo!!!”) Harvey was a most impressive magician’s assistant to Dr. Wilson, and seemed to thoroughly enjoy her duties on stage.

The rest of our lineup was just as impressive, with a belly dancer, the fantastic Professor Miller doing his magic on stage, as well as Miss Kristyn Murphy who sang a very moving and dramatic number, marking her first and hopefully not last appearance on the Riverbend Players stage. We had many of our familiar favorites on stage, including Miss Nellie Winship and Miss Paula Webster graced us once more with their own lovely voices. We welcomed someone new to the Riverbend Players show, but not new to the community by any means. Mr. Oliva Jacques sang and performed his way through several old, familiar, and even favorite tunes. He also showed his prowess as our one and only original “Strong Man” to open our show each evening!!

The Grouchy Old Ladies did a marvelous job filling in for our missing ‘Guest Emcee’, who unfortunately had family obligations and therefore could not perform the emcee duties this year for us. As always, our audiences were the best around, and seemed to completely and totally enjoy themselves. The audience were very eager to join in and participate in all of the upbeat tunes that our favorite accordion player of all time, Miss Gena Churchill, played with her usual gusto and sense of humor as well!!!

Finally, and certainly last, but NOT LEAST……..we had another of our favorite performing groups joining us once more, the fantastic barbershop quartet of “A Little Off The Top”, featuring your local favorite tenor and ours, Eric Stover!!! These four fellows are so well liked and popular with our audiences, that even AFTER we performers all took our final bows, the audience demanded that they do another number or two!! Now THAT is a FIRST for us Riverbend Players. So of COURSE those good-humored fellows welcomed the request and obliged our appreciative audience, as well as thrilling us Riverbend Players too!!!

So thanks once more to everyone who helped to make yet another of our shows a huge success!! And…….we hope to see you all very soon~!!!

Upcoming Events

Hold onto your hats ladies and gents, because you never know what might happen in the days of the old west. That will be the theme of the Riverbend Players upcoming dinner theatre show at Kravings Restaurant & Pub on Verona Island. The date has been set, and the lineup brought together for a truly unique show on Saturday, October 4th, and if that date sounds familiar to any of you, that may be it’s because that is also the opening day of Bucksport’s Fall Festival!

Meanwhile, at Kravings October 4th, there will be singing, dancing, perhaps a little accordion action, and definitely plenty of theatrics. The Grouchy Old Ladies (GOL’s) might even put in an appearance (in fact, some folks say that the GOL’s may have actually experienced those days of the old west first hand, and in person!!). There will be a guest emcee, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, even to the Riverbend Players themselves, and there will also be plenty of guest performers as well.

So, make sure to get your reservations in soon, as there isn’t much time to waste, and there is somewhat limited seating. Give Glen or the crew at Kravings a call to make your reservations, at (207)469-9900. Also keep your eyes and ears open for further updates as they become available.
